<br />
There are a number of people that are learning to use PPT. I am attaching a template for an interactive book as well as an interactive book about Apples that can be used as a guide. I hope this helps everyone who is trying to learn how to use PPT to create activities for their class. Graphics from Educlips.<br />

The children have really enjoyed the various activities that we are using during the year that are "Pete" related. For the fall, I created a "Where is Pete?" activity to work on the concepts of on and under. I spread out different colored pumpkins on the floor and placed Pete either on a pumpkin or under a pumpkin. The children had to tell me where Pete was - on the yellow pumpkin, under the red pumpkin. I also had a smaller Pete so that I could hide him under one of the pumpkins and the children had to guess where he was. They really enjoyed this activity.<br />
<br />
You can click the image below to get this activity. Enjoy!<br />

I looked on Pinterest and a lot of different websites, but never could find anything that I felt my children could make. I finally came up with an idea and it worked great.<br />
<br />
The idea in "The Mitten" is that all of the animals climb into a white mitten. I needed to find something white and the also had animals. Here is what I came up with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDP8edKtkJjPda77e-cbkIP75SnhVlqTRUdBZKomxjugWhyJwKMhptZUQ4qL7sBYacRFHIr3H-8NnHKQQ1c0dGSl3N-r3d7ibGfxyuxQuu5mxSH3QNl0Aga-DcpY_F7iwO2OcvEIpDbyU/s1600/IMG_4899.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDP8edKtkJjPda77e-cbkIP75SnhVlqTRUdBZKomxjugWhyJwKMhptZUQ4qL7sBYacRFHIr3H-8NnHKQQ1c0dGSl3N-r3d7ibGfxyuxQuu5mxSH3QNl0Aga-DcpY_F7iwO2OcvEIpDbyU/s1600/IMG_4899.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I purchased vanilla ice cream cups and some animal cracker cookies (I know the animals are different but it was the idea that counted). The children put their animals into the vanilla ice cream, as many as they could fit. And then they ate them! It was a great activity and the children loved it!</div>

This has given me lots of time to get caught up on lesson plans and games for my little ones.<br />
<br />
I have become a big fan of Ashley Hughes graphics. I was really excited when I found some cute sneaker graphics. Spent the morning making a new color matching game.<br />

This year, our mascot is Pete the Cat and we are making Pete visible throughout our room. One of our first activities was to make magnets to hang artwork. I found these little wooden cat cutouts at Michaels in the Halloween section.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrGqP1OyAS9sr39Fp07fJvnoG4h-3DOh61cDR0WgKbaWedH7m7TZMroYMugE875heJIIIH6RLc8ldqk2ow1YJHRM0xDplLv-4PgREY3xKtAtXsqB1ZsDMFWyGvDeT55FQ6JkjypyhyphenhyphenR3o/s1600/IMG_4402.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrGqP1OyAS9sr39Fp07fJvnoG4h-3DOh61cDR0WgKbaWedH7m7TZMroYMugE875heJIIIH6RLc8ldqk2ow1YJHRM0xDplLv-4PgREY3xKtAtXsqB1ZsDMFWyGvDeT55FQ6JkjypyhyphenhyphenR3o/s320/IMG_4402.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We painted them blue and put a picture on the front and a heavy duty magnet on the back. Now each child's artwork can be held up with their own magnet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO7CU3MPZ6MGX4y-x1A7kgZpo77fa2SPq8xarJyqW8orZh6mm6Ir79K099fG4rm9o_Bx6_AZr4nyT7VZX-TGL-NGftsyzIaKxOpyxPQo1epR4q8jyD45IdWsbtjKh4WsaNU8M1N3Z7uXY/s1600/IMG_4494.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO7CU3MPZ6MGX4y-x1A7kgZpo77fa2SPq8xarJyqW8orZh6mm6Ir79K099fG4rm9o_Bx6_AZr4nyT7VZX-TGL-NGftsyzIaKxOpyxPQo1epR4q8jyD45IdWsbtjKh4WsaNU8M1N3Z7uXY/s320/IMG_4494.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also made an "I Can..." board. I made a large Pete the Cat face to put up over the board. On the board itself are speech bubble cutouts that list various skills - I can count to 10, I can write my name, etc. As each child accomplishes a skill, their picture will be added to the board.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

What a great book to read with my children during our unit on colors. Below you can find some center activities that go along with the book. As you can see, I am getting back into creating for school. <br />

Our ladybug and butterfly larva arrived last week and they are already moving to the cocoon stage (I do realize that there are other terms, but it is difficult to find signs for these words to use with my hearing impaired children). The children are getting so excited watching the bugs!<br />

Below is a graphing activity that you can get for free from my Teachers Notebook store. Enjoy!<br />

That being said, I am planning a unit on Colors when I go back to school. We will be reading <b>Brown Bear, Brown Bear </b>and <b>Mouse Paint</b>. Below, you will find a Freebie that helps children with graphing skills. Enjoy your Spring Break!!<br />

I used a Sharpie to write numbers 1-10 on the bottom part of the egg. The children had to put the correct number of mini Easter erasers in each egg. It is basically a PVC pipe frame that fits around one of the tables in my class. It has a little pitched roof so that it actually looks like a house. For our current dramatic play area, I covered the roof with brown paper and drew on some gingerbread men and candy pieces. The children use the table to play with gingerbread playdoh or play some gingerbread themed games.<br />

I got a lot of great ideas for my class and picked up a few items I know my children will enjoy. I headed to my son's house for the weekend and proceeded to sprain my ankle while being seated for dinner at a local restaurant. This truly hampered my shopping plans. I was able to limp around a little and found some great mini erasers.<br />
<br />
I love mini erasers for activities for my children. They can be used for counting, sorting, fine motor (picking up small objects), patterning.....the possibilities are endless. I love to find erasers that are related to holidays and themes. Target Dollar Spot is a great place to find these.<br />
<br />
The erasers I found came from Michaels. There are 75 in the bag and have a Santa, a reindeer, a snowman, and a mitten. These are great because I can use them before and after Christmas (the mitten and snowman for my Winter themes). The bag was $2.99 but with a 40% coupon and 15% Teacher Discount, the price is reasonable.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This year, we adopted Pete the Cat as our class mascot. I fell in love with the Pete the Cat books and the children have too! (There are two new books coming out in February and I already have them pre-ordered). When we read "Pete the Cat Rockin' in my School Shoes," we went around the school and visited all of the places that Pete goes to in the book. We also took pictures of Pete in these places.</div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a Smartboard presentation entitled "Where is Pete?" Each day, we look at the pictures and the children respond to the question:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Where is Pete? in the library....on the slide....on the bus....in the cafeteria.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have since added a few more pictures - I took a picture of Pete on the fire truck during Fire Safety Week. I change the order of the pictures so the children don't get used to what comes next. They have really enjoyed this activity and they are getting a better understanding of the question "Where?"</div>

I think I finally figured out all the ins and outs of posting an item to Teachers Notebook. I got my store set up and loaded my first free item. Turkey Games is a 10 page pdf file that has two math games in it. The first is a 10 Frame game, where children will put items into the 10 Frame that corresponds to the number. I usually use seasonal erasers, pom poms, or chips.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjly8vHQfoUXM-tAKCq9a4REZQyQRD5Nbjp4djq6fGoLgQPF3GHS-MQYrN26t2iew8H2YSoqAjEUvGuMTjX2jU3tQNHPoMFSfCqWHL9LNmt_jn6bJn7j6gQjIh7_OW-W5JXx63Zpym-VhI/s1600/Turkey+Games-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjly8vHQfoUXM-tAKCq9a4REZQyQRD5Nbjp4djq6fGoLgQPF3GHS-MQYrN26t2iew8H2YSoqAjEUvGuMTjX2jU3tQNHPoMFSfCqWHL9LNmt_jn6bJn7j6gQjIh7_OW-W5JXx63Zpym-VhI/s320/Turkey+Games-2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The second games is a More-Less game. Children choose two cards, decide which card has more items and which card has less, and place them on the game board in the appropriate block.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I try to stay away from the idea of Halloween and concentrate on things that have to do with pumpkins. I am so happy to have found Pinterest - there are so many wonderful ideas there. Here is a link to my <a href="http://pinterest.com/dt0621/pumpkins/" target="_blank">Pumpkin</a> board. Some of the activities that we did that you will find on my board are:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Pie Pumpkin: growing the pumpkin seeds from within the pumpkin</li>
<li>Candy Corn Math printables</li>
<li>Knuckle Pumpkins - cute art project using knuckles to make the pumpkin</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Another pumpkin activity I did was a flannel board activity with felt pumpkins.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy4SRbl7wQJHcMUZHG8VubmpZMLBF1cVPK8lkxEHUDLTJUwD-4E94sZAxaNiLCz4AFWu7KMdVif0Kn6miozvIumzmoGWjXi4x6yzf0nb1voAUsYCZfCjgJxsiaEkU6ad_5oU1mfPsH3aY/s1600/IMG_3294.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Pumpkins on flannel board" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy4SRbl7wQJHcMUZHG8VubmpZMLBF1cVPK8lkxEHUDLTJUwD-4E94sZAxaNiLCz4AFWu7KMdVif0Kn6miozvIumzmoGWjXi4x6yzf0nb1voAUsYCZfCjgJxsiaEkU6ad_5oU1mfPsH3aY/s320/IMG_3294.jpg" title="Pumpkins on flannel board" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
I got some felt pumpkins from Michael's. They were actually felt stickers, so I put them on an orange piece of felt and cut them out so they were ready for the flannel board. We were able to do patterning and sorting activities. One of the ways we sorted were pumpkins with leaves and with no leaves. I love the flannel board. It is magnetic on the back so I can place it on my magnetic whiteboard when needed. I found some turkeys and pilgrims from AC Moore and added the felt backing to use with my Thanksgiving unit.</div>

I began this journey many, many years ago and it has taken me in in a variety of directions. I am in my 4th year of teaching in my current school district.<br />
<br />
I have seen many blogs about teaching in pre-k classes and I enjoy getting ideas and activities to use with my children. I hope, as you read this blog, that you will see that my class is really not that different from other pre-k classes - it just might take us a little longer to do things.<br />
<br />
For years, I have been making and sharing activities that are specific to the needs of my children. Who knew that lots of other teachers would be interested in some of those activities. I am currently in the process of opening a store at Teachers Notebook. I will let you know when it is up and running, and the first activity will be free!!!<br />
<br />
Thanks in advance for reading this. I hope that you will enjoy it enough to begin following it on a regular basis.<br />
